The compliance copilot
The compliance copilot answers questions about your workspace's compliance records — your controls, evidence, policies and gaps — and says which records each answer rests on. It is an AI system, and it says so every time you open it. It decides nothing: when it asks for an AI draft, the draft waits for you.
TL;DR — In Axis Assure, open Ask the compliance copilot at the bottom right of any page and ask a question. The answer cites the records it read (open a marker to see one). Each question is answered on its own; nothing is remembered between questions. If the copilot asks to make an AI draft, confirm or decline it in your approvals.
Where it is, and who sees it
The launcher, Ask the compliance copilot, sits at the bottom right of every Axis Assure page. It appears only when the copilot can actually answer you:
- your workspace's AI master switch is on (see The master switch and the residency pin);
- your workspace's plan includes the copilot;
- your Axis Assure role may use AI (Analyst and above).
If AI is switched off while the copilot is open, the next question finds it off and the copilot closes itself. Nothing else in the platform can start it: not an automation, a workflow or another assistant.
The notice
Whenever the copilot is open it shows, without a way to dismiss it: You are talking to an AI. This assistant is an AI system, not a person. It answers from the records of your workspace that you can see, says which records it read, and can be wrong. It decides nothing: any draft it asks for waits for you, and a person reviews it. It remembers nothing between questions.
Asking a question
Ask
Type a question of up to 2,000 characters — about your controls, evidence, policies or gaps — and select Ask. The copilot reads your records while it works.
Read the answer and its sources
The answer is plain text, with markers for the records each statement rests on, and a list of the records it read. Open a marker to see the record (see Citations and the Why panel). Check them before you rely on an answer.
Start again when you like
Clear the conversation forgets it on this page. Nothing is kept on the server between questions.
What it reads, and what it cannot do
- It reads only what you may read: your workspace's records as you see them, and a framework's words only where the framework's licence allows them here (otherwise the requirement goes by its identifier).
- Its tools are read tools and draft tools only. It can never use a tool that reaches outside the platform, send an email, approve or reject anything, or change a record itself.
- Drafts wait for you. When it asks to make an AI draft (a narrative, for example), it stops and says so: confirm or decline the draft in your approvals. The draft is yours to review like any AI draft, and someone else approves the record.
- Instructions hidden in a record are not followed. If a record it read contains text that looks like instructions to an AI, the answer says so; check it with care.
- No memory. Each question is its own conversation with the AI; nothing you asked earlier is carried into the next one.
When there is no answer
| You see | What happened |
|---|---|
| What is missing | Your records do not support an answer. The copilot does not answer from general knowledge. |
| "Could not be tied to your records" or "not in the required form" | The AI's answer failed the checks every AI answer must pass, so it is not shown. |
| "Stopped at its … limit" | It reached one of its limits (steps, records read, length, cost or time) before answering. Ask a narrower question. |
| "Too many questions right now" | A rate limit; try again shortly. |
| "This workspace has used its AI budget for the month" | Your administrator's monthly AI budget is reached. |
What is recorded
Each question is recorded in your workspace's audit log and kept as a record of the AI request — who asked, the records cited by reference, the outcome — without the words of the question or the answer in the audit log.
