Total compensation
/hcm/me/total-comp is the one-page annual statement that adds up
everything the workspace pays you and on your behalf: base salary,
bonus eligibility, equity grants + projected vests, employer-paid
benefits, retirement match, and perks. It's the "what am I actually
making" summary you can take to a conversation about compensation.
TL;DR — Open HCM → Me → Total comp. The annual statement shows base + bonus + equity + benefits + retirement + perks totalled per year. Past statements live in the archive section; download the PDF for offline / advisor sharing.
What's on the statement
| Field | What it does | Accepted values / default |
|---|---|---|
| Base salary | Your annual salary. | Pulled from your active compensation record. |
| Target bonus | The bonus you're eligible for at 100% performance. | Plan-specific. Actual bonus depends on individual + workspace performance. |
| Equity grants (vesting this year) | Total value of equity scheduled to vest in the statement year, at the most recent 409A FMV. | Includes original + refresher grants. Projection; actual value depends on share-price movements. |
| Employer-paid benefits | The workspace's cost of your health / dental / vision / disability / life premiums. | Per-month premium × 12 by benefits class. |
| Retirement match | Employer 401(k) match (if any). | Computed against the workspace match policy + your contribution rate. |
| Perks | Other employer-funded benefits (meal stipend, learning budget, wellness, commuter, etc.). | Per-period × periods-per-year. |
| Total | Sum of the above. | Updated after every comp change or grant event. |
How equity is valued
Equity vests during the statement year are valued at the most recent 409A fair-market value. This is a projection, not a guarantee — actual realized value depends on:
- Future share-price movements
- When (or whether) you exercise ISOs / NSOs
- Liquidity events (IPO, secondary, tender)
The statement carries a footnote that names the 409A date used; HR updates the FMV at each 409A refresh and the statement re-renders.
Past statements
The archive section lists every annual statement going back to when you started. Statements are immutable — what was true on the generation date stays true. Download each as PDF for offline / advisor / spouse sharing.
How total comp differs from your W-2
- W-2 reflects what you actually received in wages + imputed income last year.
- Total comp projects what your full compensation package is worth for THIS year.
A vest event that produces ordinary income shows up on the W-2 as imputed income; the total-comp statement projects the future-year equivalent based on the schedule.
Every field, explained
| Field | What it does | Accepted values / default |
|---|---|---|
| Statement year | Which calendar year the statement reflects. | Current year by default; pick prior years from the archive. |
| Generation date | When the statement was last regenerated. | Auto-regenerated on comp / grant changes. |
| 409A FMV used | The FMV used to value equity vests. | Read-only; updated by HR at each 409A refresh. |
| Download PDF | Print-ready copy. | Includes the workspace logo + all detail lines. |
What appears in the audit log
The total-comp surface is read-only; no per-action audit codes fire here. Underlying changes (comp adjustments, grant events) emit codes on their own surfaces. See:

Common gotchas
- "Total comp went up but I didn't get a raise." A new equity grant or a refreshed 409A FMV can move the number without a base-pay change. The footnote names which.
- "Past statement shows different numbers than I remember." Statements are immutable — what you see now is what was true on generation date. If you think a value is wrong, contact HR; the underlying record may have changed but the past statement is pinned.
- "My target bonus shows but I didn't think I had a bonus plan." Your eligibility may have been set at hire and not surfaced to you separately. Talk to HR or your manager.
- "Equity projection is way off from what I think it'll vest at." That's the projection limitation — future share price is unknown. The statement uses the most recent 409A as the only defensible estimate.
Troubleshooting
| Error code | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
TOTALCOMP_NOT_AVAILABLE | Statement for that year hasn't generated yet. | Wait for the next regeneration cycle. |
TOTALCOMP_PDF_GENERATION_FAILED | PDF render failed (transient). | Retry; if persistent, contact HR. |
